No For the 48th time in the last 67 min.

One thing I can remember about Macy's department store is the constent asking if I want to apply for a Macy's card - not bad if it was done with a bit more tack and not 48 times in a 67 min shopping session with the spouse. To my amazment I found this today -

RE: Gift Wrap Associate
Reply to: see belowDate: 2007-10-08, 9:46AM PDTIf anyone is considering the Gift Wrap Associate job posted today in the et cetera jobs section be aware that you will need to act as though you are applying to be Macy's head of sales department. I applied last year as a seasonal employee in gift wrap and went to a group interview, very unprofessional, and there was never one question that ever spoke to gift wrap department. This so called interview or as I like to call it a cattle call had every position they were hiring for. The whole time this woman addressed having to make monthly quotas of Macy's credit cards, suggesting to customers they may want to purchase more products that Macy's offers and always if you see a situation or customer needing attention you are supposed to jump right on it even if you are headed out the door for the day. No stop your life and clean up some water you see on the floor or whatever. This was possibly the worst job interview I ever went on and the woman conducting it at the Sunrise store let's just call her Broomhilda was a barracuda. I wouldn't have taken the job if they offered it to me. So if you want this job answer every question like you just can't wait to sell credit cards and push products people probably don't want and then after you are hired you can just be a normal person. And by the way when are you supposed to wrap gifts in between all the sales efforts and making sure every customer and safety problem in the store is taken care of. One of the people I was in this interview with got hired and I was at Macy's purchasing an item and she was the cashier. A woman came up as she was putting my items in a bag and asked where I had found this blouse I purchased she really liked it. I pointed to an area of the store where I found it and the cashier never even acknowledged her. So since I was finished with my purchase I took her over to the rack because there were so many racks of clothes she never would have found it. The cashier never offered but asked me if I wanted to open a Macy's credit card. There you go.

Makes you shake your head - whatever happen to training cusotmer service and then providing customer service. It is becoming a reality - customer service is to expensive or the american market place has almost check out of the customer service business (outside of many of the 5 stars). I was always under the impression that if I was going to pay an excessive amount for a product in a department store, hotel, resturant, etc. at least I felt - was getting decent service.
I could justify the price with the service, but I had to file that logic in the paper bin and recycle the matter.
